Two years after his "Luckiest Man" speech and a month after his death, Yankee Stadium played host to the Memorial Game ceremony where Gehrig's monument was unveiled. Surviving tickets to the historic event have always been a prized collectible, as seen here in Yankee GM George Weiss's message to a fan: "Replying to your letter, I am sorry to say that we do not have any actual autographs of Babe Ruth or Lou Gehrig. I am enclosing a souvenir ticket for the Memorial games for Lou Gehrig on July 4th, 1941 which I trust you will add to your souvenirs." The iconic portrait ticket (Field Box $2.20) is attached with vintage yellowed tape strips at the perimeter, yet the all-important central areas are clean and unaffected. Measuring 8-1/4" x 11", the heavily folded sheet of official Yankees stationery is dated 4/15/53 and carries a secretarial example of Weiss's signature. GD condition overall. Auction LOA from JSA.
