Fight fans get ready to rumble for this classic boxing poster. On 5/25/65 Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) faced Sonny Liston in a rematch, to defend his heavyweight crown for the first time. Ali had “shook up the world” in the combatants' previous 1964 meeting, taking Liston out in six rounds. Their second fight is a memorable boxing event, noted for the infamous “phantom punch” in the second round, which resulted in a TKO victory for Ali under suspicious circumstances which suggest Liston took a dive.

Some determined boxing buff will score big by walking away with this 14x22 poster, which promoted the Closed Circuit TV screening of the 5/25/65 “Clay vs Liston” fight at the D.C. National Guard Armory. Graced with a dynamic fight photo of the participating heavyweights, this medium stock cardboard placard remains visually exciting, despite overall moderate wear with many minor detractions, but no major ones. Noted are tape stains, small bits of surface loss, curling at bottom left, a couple of pinholes, creasing at center and a tear at top. Most of this wear occurs on the poster’s perimeter and with the exception of the top and bottom edge text bars, the graphics and photos are otherwise not diminished and the result is an appealing period authentic look for this historic boxing relic.
