Description

These battling Bucs of yesteryear enjoyed careers in the 1900s through 1930s and then died mainly between 1954 and 1980. Includes players from the 1903, 1909, 1925 and 1927 World Series teams. Auction LOA from JSA.

Baseballs

George Grantham (PIT 1925-1931; d.1954): Black-ink "8" signature on shellacked, medium-toned ONL (Frick) with vintage tape marks on north and south panels.

Carmen Hill (PIT 1915-1916, 1918-1919, 1926-1929; d.1990): Blue-ink "9" signature with 1927 team inscription on white, lightly scuffed (ONL) Feeney.

3x5 Cards

Condition averages EX to EX-MT unless otherwise noted.

Tommie Leach (PIT 1900-1912; d.1969): Blue-ink "7-8"

Babe Adams (PIT 1907-1926; d.1968): Blue-ink "8" on VG card

Wilbur Cooper (PIT 1912-1924; d.1973): Blue-ink "9-10"

Al Mamaux (PIT 1913-1917; d.1963): Green-ink "8-9" on 3-3/4" x 1-3/4" cut affixed to standard card. Mamaux is an especially interesting figure in the annals of Piratedom. A two-time 20-game winner (1915-1916), he was ultimately traded to the Brooklyn Robins as part of a deal that included Burleigh Grimes and Casey Stengel. Mamaux later played for the Yankees and thus also holds the distinction of having been teammates with both Honus Wagner and Babe Ruth!

Clyde Barnhart (PIT 1920-1928; d.1980): Red-ink "10" with 1927 team inscription

Eddie Moore (PIT 1923-1926; d.1976): Blue-ink "9-10"

Ray Kremer (PIT 1924-1934; d.1965): Blue-ink "8-9"
