Regarded as golf's leading amateur at the time of this magazine's publishing, Jack Nicklaus is seen blasting his way out of the sand on the cover of this 9/12/60 Sports Illustrated Vol. 13, #11 issue. While attending Ohio State University, Nicklaus was named the top amateur golfer by Golf Digest for three consecutive years from 1959-1961, before he turned pro in late '61. Published during SI's "'dark print era", this first Nicklaus cover appearance magazine is graded (6.0) by CGC, good for a Census rank of "1/1" at this level, with 2 higher and also ranks as #19 on the list of hardest to find SI back issues. Grading label notations include "Off-White to White Pages".
