Description

Huggins and Scott Auctions enthusiastically presents a collection of government postcards autographed by baseball legends. These vintage cards are all postmarked 1953 or 1954, and the signers are among the greatest players of the 1890s-1950s. Fourteen cards featuring Hall of Famers are offered on an individual basis, each with a full photo LOA from JSA. Two other lots are groupings of Hall of Famers and stars, accompanied by auction LOAs from JSA. Lovingly held by the original collector for the past seventy years, these new to the market autographs are all pleasing examples, and the cards are generally crisp, with moderate cream toning.

Here we have a selection of (10) St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer and star signed GPCs. Signature strength ranges ("7" to "10") and all of the cards are postmark dated 1953. Featured signers are: Frankie Frisch (HOF, d.1973), Johnny Mize (HOF, d.1993) with "Best Wishes", (2) Enos Slaughter (HOF, d.2002) including one Cardinals issued "Dear Friend" card, (2) "Red" Schoendienst (HOF, d.2018) including one Cardinals issued "Dear Friend" card, Marty Marion (d.2011), Curt Simmons (d.2022) with "Best Wishes", Terry Moore (d.1995), and Solly Hemus (d.2017) personalized. Also present is a "Lefty" Grove signed GPC ("9"). Grove never played for the Cardinals, but he does stand as an important autograph, and a welcome addition. Auction LOA from JSA.

To view the others GPCs from this collection, please go to our "Baseball Autographs" category, and review the subsection "Baseball Postcards, Index Cards & Cut Signatures".
